Frequently asked questions
Got questions?
Everything you need to know about the Learning table: content, ordering, delivery, classroom use and connected pieces.
The tool
What is the Learning table?
A beechwood teaching board game with a nautical chart and 3D-printed pieces: vessels, buoyage, hazards, lights and signals. The instructor sets up navigation situations, and students analyse and solve them together.
Which regulations does it cover?
Steering and sailing rules (COLREGs), IALA buoyage for regions A and B, vessel lights and sound signals. Optional sets add night buoyage plus weather, tide and port entry signals.
Who is Nauticademy for?
Maritime schools, vocational training centres, sailing and boating schools, and nautical associations, in France and abroad. Learning through play also helps students who struggle with traditional teaching.
Can the board match our local waters?
Yes. The standard chart covers every maritime configuration, but we can reproduce your own navigation area. You also choose the table size, the legs and the number of pieces, up to 800.
In the classroom
How many students can play at once?
From 2 to 18 participants. Beyond that, attention and discussion get diluted, so we recommend working in half groups.
Do I need to change the way I teach?
No. The Learning table supports three methods: illustrating a traditional lesson (affirmative), putting students in real situations (active), or questioning and assessing them (interrogative). You keep your own syllabus.
Do you offer onboarding training?
[To be completed: on-site demo at delivery, video call, user guide…]
Ordering and delivery
How much does a Learning table cost?
Each table is made to order, so the price depends on the size, the chart and the options you choose. We provide a free quote based on your needs. [Optional: add a "from" price]
Can you respond to public tenders?
Yes. In France we accept official purchase orders and payment by administrative mandate within the 30-day public payment period. For other countries, contact us and we will adapt to your procurement process.
How long does production take?
Allow [X weeks] after the chart is approved. Everything is made in our workshop in Paimpol, Brittany, so we keep control of lead times and update you at every step.
Do you ship internationally?
[To be completed: delivery areas, on-site installation, international shipping]. Once folded, the table is easy to store.
What if a piece is lost or damaged?
All pieces come out of our own workshop, so you can order a single replacement piece. Just email us and tell us which piece you need.
Connected pieces
How do the NFC pieces work?
Hold a smartphone near a buoy or vessel fitted with a chip: its night light animates on screen, or the sound signals page opens. No app is needed, but NFC must be turned on and the phone needs an internet connection.
Do the chips work with every phone?
With the vast majority of recent smartphones, both Android and iPhone. On some Android models, NFC has to be switched on in the settings.
